A video went viral in July of a man named David V. Moore and his male partner of 17 years being denied a marriage license by the Rowan County Clerk’s Office in Morehead, Kim Davis, the clerk of Rowan County instructed her office to deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples. When asked by the press under who’s authority she is denying marriage licenses she answered, “Under God’s authority.” She will not issue licenses to same-sex couples because she sees it as sinful.
And with that comment Kim has brought down a firestorm of controversy on herself. The woman can’t be fired because she’s an elected official. She has been ordered to issue the marriage licenses according to law. But Davis has stated that her defiance of the Supreme Court’s orders stems from her Christian beliefs. She was jailed for contempt of court and has become a martyr for Christianity.
Kim Davis is a martyr without a cause. She is more bigot and adulterer than Christian. I would almost appreciate her dilemma if she was a stout Christian exercising her religious freedom. But a look into Kim’s life shows a confused and hypocritical woman that hides behind Christianity when it’s convenient.
Let’s break Kim’s messy personal life down. It almost needs a flow chart to make sense of:
Kim marries the first husband at 18. Has two children with husband #1. Kim was busy – she also had an affair and conceives twins during the marriage. Marriage #1 ends. She has the twins out of wedlock five months after divorce and files a restraint order against the “violent lover” she had the twins with.
Marries husband #2 who adopts the twins. Marriage #2 ends in divorce. Husband #2 gives up adoption rights on the twins.
One year after the divorce, the clerk marries the violent man she had an affair on husband #1 with (father of the twins) and she had filed a restraint order against before marrying husband #2. They separate and divorce 10 months later.
Less than a year after the divorce, Kim remarries husband from marriage #2.
This is not a Christian woman upholding her personal beliefs. For someone willing to go to jail to honor the sanctity of traditional marriage and avoid sin, her track record shows otherwise.
Her deputy clerk, Brian Mason issued marriage licenses while his boss was in jail for contempt. According to the AP: ”Mason said Wednesday that licenses would be granted to anyone seeking them. He told reporters that if Davis tells him to stop, he will tell her no. Mason says he would follow the judge’s order to issue licenses.”
Davis was released on Tuesday, September 8th from jail with an order not to interfere with marriage licenses. Davis, a democrat, attended a rally, in her honor, flanked by Mike Huckabee, Ted Cruz and her overall-sporting husband (participant in marriage #2 and #4).
Davis has a way of pissing people off. She pissed off the Supreme Court, the gay community, most level-headed Americans and now the band Survivor. Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” song played during her jail release rally to the cheer of the crowd. Survivor got wind of this and retorted with a clear “Oh hell no!” The band wrote on their Facebook page: “NO! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use ‘The Eye Of The Tiger,’” “I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin!” they added.
